Dr Hodgkinson addressed a fairly large meeting of electors at Gummies Bush on Monday night, Captain Stevens occupied the chair H and the candidate had. a good

reception and an attentive hearing. A considerable number of questions were put and answered in the Doctor's usual straightforward way, and, generally, to the satisfaction of his hearers. At the conclusion a hearty vote of thanks and confidence was passed. The same candidate spoke at Gropers Bush on Tuesday nighc to about 35 electors, Mr George Gumming in the chair. Dr Hodgkinson had a sympathetic hearing and answered questions on a variety of subjects. A vote of thanks Jtfas proposed, hut a,n amendment of " thanks and confidence " was carried by a good majority. Between 40 and 50 electors met in Croydon schoolhouse on Monday night to hear an address from Mr J. G. Fraaer. Mr R. Dickson occupied the chair. At the close of the address, a number of questions bearing upon the interests of bushmen versus b»wmillers were asked, and in reply the candidate said he was in favour of conserving the interests of the bushmen, as well as the sawmillers, all over the colony. The State Forests Act was framed more for the rich than for the poor, and he did not approve of it. The State forests were so extensive that he would not be in favour of their being vested in County Councils or Land Boards; the Government should amend the Act so as to be fair to all. He would be favourable to the abandoned portion of the Croydon Bush being surveyed into sections, and sold as Village Settlement. An effort was made in this direction over two years ago, but it failed. He would pledge himself to agitate in that direction if returned. A vote of thanks and confidence in the candidate, also pledging those present to do all they could to return him to Parliament was carried amid vociferous applause. Mr Fraser addressed the Mataura electors in Watson's Hall, Wyndham, on Tuesday night. There was a good attendance, and Mr John Milne presided. The candidate spoke for nearly two hours, afterwards answered several questions, and was accorded a vote of thanks for his address.
