Received 26th, 8.45 p.m. At a meeting of the Irish party to-day Mr Parneil, in thanking those present for re--electing him leader, said he wouM have cheerfully retired from the position if there had been a diversity of opinion, but since they were unanimous he was willing again to act. The English Liberals still urge him to retire. The Nationalists are assisting the dockers in Ireland in blocking vessels carrying material for the construction of relief railways in the distressed districts. In the House of Commons Mr Balfour has given notice of a separate bill dealing with the congested districts in Ireland. The Charity Organisation Society has declared that " General " Booth's labour scheme of emigration is impracticable. Silver is quoted at 3s lid per oz. In the House of Commons to-day Mr W. H. Smith announced that the Government intended to occupy the whole time until their measures reached committee.
