MELBOURNE, Oct. 27. Received 27th, 9.30 p.m. The Admiral, who i3 slightly under a cloud, is ostensibly backed for the Derby at sto 2. Annesley was well supported at 100 to 30, which price is not now obtainable. L5OOO has been taken about Gatling down to 6to 1. Titan has been nibbled at at 7to 1, and Whimbrel at 10 to 1. Chaldean has received strong support for the Cup at 100 to 6 ; Tantallon, Enuc and Loyal Stone have been kicked at 100 to 7; Vengeance, Muriel and The Queen at 100 to 5, and Highborn at 100 to 4. The following scratching have been posted :— For all engagement*.: Abacus; for the Melbourne Cup : Camden, Clement's Tonic, Pakeha, Forty Winks, Clare, The Pioneer, Ivy, Beverley, Meltonian, Wycombe, Sea Song and Teuton. Received 28th, 1 a.m. At a meeting of the waterside bodies it was decided, in spite of the breaking up of the strike by the return to work of the colliers and officers to stand out by themselves. The western miners have resumed but indecision 'prevails among the southern miners, and it is anticipated that the result of the Newcastle ballot will guide them. From a return to hand the ballot is favourable to the resumption of work in the northern mines. The Premier denies that there is the slightest ground for the rumour that Mr Bruce Smith succeeds Sir Saul Samuel as Agent-General.
