(By Telegraph.) Christchurch, April 24. A conference was held to-day of representatives from Canterbury County Council and Hospital and Charitable Aid Boards. The conference also resolved that clause 248 of the Counties Act, 1886, be altered so as to take the power from Government to force any Council to repair any road, bridge or ferry, and in lieu thereof to allow County Councils to say whether these roads, &c. shall be maintained or not ; their decision to be final ;" " that a further addition be made to section 248 to class all bridges into first and second class ; all first-class to be maintained by Councils, all others to be kept up or not as. Councils may decide ;" and " that roads running along boundaries between two counties, although each road is in one county, be declared boundary roads within the meaning of the Act. Resolutions were also passed condemning the proposed Hospitals and Charitable Aid Bill, and expressing the opinion that Hospital and Charitable Aid Boards should be elected by the contributing local bodies." j
