Me Donald ;;nd Co report as follows for the week ending 31st inst. • — Sheepskins — A. good supply is now coining forward Car basin 83 under this heading is very brisk, and we contemplate filling all orders j at an ea?ly date. Our prices range from 73 Gd to 6s for fine well takon off 1 -ts ; 6 1 to 5a for ordinary lots of mixe^i ; 6s to 3s for dead or discoloured, fins woolled -nd so 00, Eabbitskins — During th- week we have been operating at exceptionally tush rates, having paid 19£ d for high country does ; 18f i 'for mixed sorts c f do, a^d 9d to 13d for Ute caught ; 6d to 8d for rack 3. Wool— Sma'l lots continue to arrive, and command good rate 3. We will operate to any extent and on all grades during the sea-on. Note. — Farmers caa obtain wcolpicks from us at lowest rates, also twina and all other necessaries. Messrs Wbitingbain Bros aud Instone report for the week ending 3'st :n«S : — Babb.tskins— The oferin:s ia these for the past we^k were principally springs and !ov country does, for which we have returned full rates, and are open to receive any quantity. During the week we j aid 17d for early springs, other kinds in p'oporlioa ; really prime winters are still firm at 18£ d per lb. During the ensuing week we expect to have the balance cf the winters for the season, and then we offer Bpecial ratss for springs and summers, free of all charges. Hid«E— Prices rule high for really prime heavies ; Huh 11 kips and calfskins also rule firm, medium weights Eot fo much in favour. Wool— Small lots of the early clip have reached us daring tha *-eek, and are quite up to th :: » general average at this time of the year# Sheepskins— The recent dry weather ha 9 been the means of bringing large quantities of dry country skins forward, for which we have returned the highe t obtainable prices. As merinos and halfbreds aie a specialty in this branch of our bu-ines3 we would ask clients to bnle or bundle the 3« ote separately, so as to obtain the highest r-. ling prices, viz., 7£d perlb; other qualities aud inferior short-woolled range from 4d to s^d per ib free of charges.
Tothill, Watson and Co report on the hide and skin market as fallows :— On Monday, th; 28th inst. wo offered a large catalogue of the above] comprising 73 lots, to a fail attendance of the trade. Competition was kten. but prices f .>r sheepskins were birely as good as those ruli >g during the pa?t month. Forowinj are those realised : — Sheepskins — Butchers' green crossb eds, os to 6s 7d ; good Hr\- do, 4s 5d to os 2d ; medium, 3: od to is ; inferior, Is lOd to 3s ; merinos, inferior, Is Id ; to 3s for mediam ; pelts, 6£d to Is od each. Rabbitskins — Those forward were for the most part inferior skins, which sold as follows — inferior winters, 1s; spring caught, G£d; and half-grown lots,3f i to 4£l per lb. Rough Fat realised 12s 9d to 13s for good ; inferior, 63 3d per owt. Hides— We sold good lots from 2f ito2^ ; medium, 2£d; inferior, 1&4 per lb ; damaged lots, 5s 3d ; and calfskins, Is 7d each.
