THE DINNER. Soon after the match was finished a number of gentlemen sat down to dinner in one of Mr McKay's farm buildings, the edibles being supplied by Mr Kingsland in his usual excellent style. Mr James -McKercher presided, and Mr A. Kinross was vice-chairman. The usual loyal toasts having been honoured, The Chairman proposed " The Long Bush Ploughing Association," commenting on the want of interest shown in the match by the farmers of the district. Mr J. A. Mitchell, with whose name the toast was coupled, responded in suitable and felicitious terms. The toast of " The Successful Competitors was proposed by Mr Kinross, and responded to by Messrs A. Ga^\ H. King, J. Mclntosh, W. Aitken (on behalf of his son A. Aitken), and Kelleher (the only man who entered for the hedge-cutfcing competition), each expresing himself fully satisfied that the judges had conscientiously done their duty. Mr J. A. Mitchell proposed "The Unsnccessful Competitors," and Messrs R. Patterson and J. Mclntosh responded. "The Judges" was the next toast, Mr A. Kinross in proposing it thanking the gentlemen who had acted that day for the services rendered. — Messrs Mclntyre and McLean acknowledged the compliment, the former congratulating the ploughmen on the qualityof the work and the latter expressing regret that there had not been more competition in the single furrow class. Mr W. Halliday proposed " The Commercial Interests," and Mr J. A. Mitchell responded expressing the hope that the cloud of depression had now rolled away and that better times would follow on the satisfactory increase in the prices of grain, frozen mutton and other produce. The other toasts were "The President, Secretary and members of committee ' (proposed by Mr Kinross, and responded to by Mr McKercher and Mr W. Hamilton), *'The donors of special prizes" (proposed by the chairman and responded to by Mr J. Affleck) ; " The Caterer, Mr Kingsland," and Mr and Mrs McKay. A number of capital songs were given at Intervals by JMessrs J. Irving, W. Aitken, W. Halliday, Kingslaud, Kinross, and Kelleher.
