A capital start was effected, and Blarney at once shot to the front, cloßely followed by Honeydew, E'sie last. Round the bendg Lamond still led, but Touchstone ran up to Pet (srirl and came third after Lamond. When fairly in the straight she nhowed for a moment at the head of affairs, but Lamond came again, and passing the stand was once more in front, "with Touchstone at his girths. After them cam* Pet Girl, followed by Blarney, Leichardt, Frisco and Arsenal. There was no material alteration at the seven furlongs post or along tho back of tho coarse to tbe sheds, where Lamond had improved his lead of Touchstone to three-quarters of a length ; the rest in a buncb. Blarney made his effort rounding the bencl, and secured second place, followed by Arsenal and Abercorn. Entering the straight Lamond increased his pace, and coming away easily from the others won by eight lengths. Arsenal beat Abercorn by half a length for second place ; iben came Elsie, Blarney, Honeydew, Leichardt, Touchstone, Frisco, The Nun, and Pet Girl in the order named. Time — 3 mina 37£ sees. A.J.C. Oaks (one mile and a half)-J Marshall's Pearl Shell (O'Brien), 1 ; Hon J White's Voll- y (Hales), 2 ; J Monagban's Bonnie Spec (Smith), 3. Bona Vista was the only other starter. Betting — 5 to 2 against Volley, 3 to 1 against Bonnie Spec, 8 to 1 againt>t Pearl Shell, 12 to 1 Bona Vista. At the fall of the flag Pearl Sbell showed in front and led tbe field past the sheds and round the bend by a length. She continued in the lead to the six furlongs' post, when Bonaie Spec assumed first position, the others being in a cluster well up. Three furlongs from home Volley went up to the leaders and she was the first to show in the straight, but bad an outside position. Pearl Shell and Bonnie Spec [at this time were well up and a desperate struggle took place down the straight between Pearl Sbell and tbe favourite, tbe former gaining the judge's verdict |by a|neck: Bonnie Spec three lengths away. Time— 2 mios 51 sees. Tbere was great excitement over Pearl Shell's victory. The Squatters' Handicap (1| mil«)— Lyndhurst, 1 ; Theorist, 2 ; Lady Marion, 3. Time— 2 uiina 12i sees.
