(FKOM OUR OWN COBSESPONDENT.J The Waikaia Caledonian Society held their eighth aunaal gathering on the recreation grounds on Monday. The weather was all that could be desired, and at the advertised time of etartiog the people began to throng the grounds including a good many visitors from various parts, ] Luinsden and Longridge being well repreaented. The Drum and Fife Band enlivened the proceedings by giving selections during the day. Mr J. Mitchell had the licensed booth, and Mr J. Wallis the refreshment booth, both being well patronised. Following were the results of the day's sports :— j Quoits (18 yards up)— l, E Hurley ;2, H Sproat. Five entries. Maiden Plate (100 yards)— l, J B Thomp. son ; 2, E Matheson. Six started. Tossing the Caber — 1, A Alexander, who was the only one who turned it over. Three entries. Hop, Step and Jump— l, B Mclvor (37ft 3in) ; 2, D Waddell (35ft llin).
