♦ : (from oub own correspondent.) Since my las', little of special interest has transpired in this locality. The moat noteworthy event is ths appearance in our midst of the Rev. Gordon Macpierson, who preached a Gaelic swmon to a large congregation oa Bnnday,s'hinst. On the Wednesday e7ening following the rev. eentloman gave a very olaboratc resume of the social and physical characteristics of the Highlands and Islands of Scotland. The interest of the lecture was enlivened by suitable selections oa the bagpipes by ths champioa piper, He D. B. MoJSae, ably assisted by MLr Duncan Mcßae. T*o Gk*He conga were given in fine style by Mr John MclJae. The schoolroom was comfortably filled on the occasion, and the audience testified their appreciation of the lecture by frequent barsts of applause. At the conclusion a hearty vote of thanks was accorded the rev. lecturer, who, after responding, proposed a like compliment to Mr Jno. Hodgkinson, who • presided. A dance wai afterwards got up, at wbich the young folks tripped it merrily for a couple of hoars to the strains of the violin, manipulated by Messrs J.McSae »nd W. Young. . The School Committee intend having a gila day for the benefit of the school on Tuesday, 21st insr. The programme will consist of a lecture on Hone Rule by the Riv. Gordon McPherson and a grand Jubilee ball, with musical interludes. Given fine weather, a bumper house and enjoyable evening is anticipated, 11th June, 1887.
