Friday, 10th June.

The Council mot at 10 a.m., when the discussion of the amendments in the Grey eminent Loan to Local Bodies Amendment Bill was resumed by Mr McLean, who moved the adjournment of the debate on the Bill till to-inon-ow. Mi Buckioy and others oppoßed this attempt to burk the measure in its last stage, —Adjournment lost by 16 to 15. Tho Council insisted on its amendments and managers were appointed for a conference. Mr Buckley moved the second reading of the West Coast Settlement Reserves Bill. Mr Taiaroa complained of such a measure being brought down just aa they were going to step aboard the steamer, aad moved that it b 9 read three weeks hence. Dr Pollen also protested against important legislation being tumbled into the Council without due time to examiae into it. This Bill ought to be referred to tho Native Affairs Committee. Messrs Mantell, Richmond, and Miller spoke in the same strain. Mr Qliver thoqght soa>e hope should be given to the suffering tenants that their case would bo considered next session. Mr Swanson gave notice to mo/can amendment applying the principle of the Act to all leasc3of any kind. Mr Taiaroa's amendment was carried by 17 to 11, and the second reading wfts lr»t. The Council again adjourned and at 5 p.m., was prorogued to July 9th by a commissioned composed of Messrs Waterhouse, Buckley, Bail lie, and Reynolds in the presence of some 20 Ooaneillors and 40 members of the Lower House.
