i[B y Telegraph.] HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES. j Wednesday, Bth J one I Eventng Sitting. — (Continued) Tho West Coart Settlement Reserves Aot Amendment Bill was furthor considered iv Committee. The Maori member- continued their opposition, and Sir J Vo^el eaid ho was willing to report progress till to-morrow to enable them to get on on witb the other business. Major Atkinson begged tho Maoris to withdraw tbeir opposition. It was a measure of justice, to which both sides admitted th r .> tenans had a fair claim, aud the matter would not admit of delay. Sir G. Grey suggested that Wi Tako and Tuipua be appointed coadjutors to act with the assessors under tbe Bill. This, bethought, would get over the difficulty. Major Atkinson and Mr Ballance both proteased tbeir readiness to agree to this compromise. Mr Paipua preferred lo have some other name than his put in. Sir Julius Yogel resented the appointment of such a Board, and said it would have to be understood tbat the Public Trustee would be relieved of all responsibility. Mr Taipua eventually said he would leave him_(.lf in tho hands of the House, and Mr Samuel's clause relative to the surrender ot leases was then pasaed. Sir Julius V i ) lj e 1 moved to report progress to give time to consider the position in which the Publio Trust Office was nowplaced. Major Atkinson animadverted on the spectacle of the Treasurer opposing a measure of which the Native Minister had charge. Mr Ballance explained that it properly came within the Treasurer's depariirunt. and he only took charge of it as a matter of convenience. A long discussion followed, ending in the motion to report progress being lost ou the voices. The Bill was reported, with amendments, and re-committed in order to insert the provision for appointing Wi Tako and Tuipua coadjutors of the Assessors. Sir J. Yogel wished to speak after the recommittal was carried, Imt was ruled out of ordur. He challenged tho Speaker's ruling, and Sir M. o' Korku told h:in. ho had better give notice of motion censuring the Speaker. The necessary amendments were considered and postponed till 11 a.m., the House rising at one a.m.
