[By Cable,] Sydney, Jan. 7. The matoh Shaw and Lillywhite's team v. the Australian Eleven, commenced today. The weather was fine. The Englishmen, winning the toes, went first to the wickets, where they remained all day and when stumps were drawn, bad compiled 258 rnos for the loes of 7 wickets, following being the scores : — Shrewsbury, c, 38 ; Barlow, c and b, 23 ; Bead, ro, 49 ; Barnes, c, 13 ; Gunn, b, 0 ; Bates, r o, '40 ; Lobman, c, 1 ; Seatton (not out), 27 ; Brigga (not out), 58 ; extras, 9.
