WANGANUI, Nov. 30. A fire occurred last night in Victoria Avenue. The shops occupied by Mr Peter Bell, draper, and Mr George Colman, grocer, were completely gutted. Examination of the building discloses the fact that the fire originated in a corner of Colman's shop, where matches were kept. The salvage from both stocks is considerable. The stock in the adjoioing shops, occupied by Mills (tailor) and Lawrence Bros, (shoemakers) was injured by wator. Mills' stock waa insured for LSOO with the Colonial, and Lawrence's for LSOO with the Liverpool, London and Globe. Taylor'B grocery stock waß damaged by water. It was insured for L 650 in the Guardian office, The cause of the fire is supposed to have been accidental. DUNEDIN, Nov. 30. Two accidents occurred to-day. A child was knocked down by a horse attached to a buggy and sustained a serious wound oa the head. A young lad named Percy Smith was found in an unconscioii3 condition on the Aaderson's Bay road, and is supposed to have fallen from a cliff. The boy died shortly after removal to tbe Hospital. Sir J. Yogel leaves for the North tomorrow. The Hon. W. H. Reynolds will not be able to attend the Cabinot mooting on ac count of illness.
