Invercargill Borough Council

A special meetiog of the Council was held yeßterday evening. Present : The Mayor, Mr J. L. McDonald, and Councillors Rocho, Basstian, Blacke, Little, Lewis, Haunah, Lennie and Storie. The Mayor explained that the meeting was called in compliance with a request conveyed ia a circular from the Government to elect a member of the Council to represent it on the Southland H. and C. A. Board. Councillor Blacke moved, Councillor Basstian seconding, that the Mayor-alect, Councillor Kocbe, represent the Council. Councillor Storie moved as an amendment, Councillor Little seconding, that Councillor Hannah bo appointed. On a diviuion there voted three for each. The Mayor gave his casting vote in favour of the amendment. Referring to the proceedings oi: the Oouucl at their last meeting, when a member was appointed ouo of the Hospital Trustees, the Mayor said the proceedings, 80 far, had b^en informal, and it would be necessary to make the appointment afresh. Councillor Roche questioned if such business conld be then takon up as the meeting was a special one. Several Councillors, on referring to the circular convening tbe meeting, considered the business was in order. Councillor Lewis moved that the Mayorelect should represent tLe Council at the moetings of Trustees. — Saconded by Councillor Lennie. Councillor Blacke thought the same gentleman should represent tho Council on the Board, and with the Trustees, and moved as an amendment that Councillor Hannah be appoiated. Councillor Roche seconded the amendment. After soma discussion the motion waa declared carried, on which Councillor Roche declined to act &a a Trustee, he considering it a position subordinate to that of a member of the Board. Councillor 31acko asked if, in that case, the business for which they had met was completed ? The Mayor said it was. If Councillor Roche declined to acl, a representative of the Council could be appointod at next meeting. Councillor Roche moved the adjournment of the Council, which was put and Cirried.
