. (raOM OUB OWN OpBBK&POHDHNT.) The clerk of the weather has been playing some curious pranke> during the past few days. On Simdajr^liuit ,we::-;wer« favoured/ with a gale, next of kin to a tornado, which continued ti]l Tuesday, On Wednesday the wind dropped;, and we were regaled with heavy showers of hail and sleet, finishing the day with a thick fall of enow, which covered the mountains around with their usual winter garb, which, 'considering the young potatoes, green' peas and summer cabbage being in each splendid forward condition, was ratfeer uninteresting. The Prince of Wales' Birthday passed off here in the same manner as most other days, excepting Sunday, which certainly, under the new- order of things, is a change, and a very welcome one, to look forward to. There is no word yet whetker the newly* appointed is going to hononr this 11 little hamlet," as one of your correspond, enta called it, wi th a monthly visit or not. If he does not, we still have our weekly services to look to. . • Shearing is commencing, but the weather is still very bleak for ouch operations. Several of your townsmen have been casting their lines over the streams round this neighbourhood with a view to induce the beautiful brown trout to come e shore, but with poor success, if we may judge by their small baskets. The MatauTa will be in splendid condition after the snow water is well way. Fish are plentiful and only re* quire judicious manipulation. The Society's ranger was here a short time ago and he re> ported the river in fine order for the present season. Eeling is the pastime at present in fashion, and the eels, when properly cooked, are not to be despised . We are to have a change of trains next week on the Kingston line, so I would advise intending tourists and travellers this way, to study the time tables before making thtir arraDgements. 11th November, 1886.
