Biroh (on behaJf of the National Mortgage and Agency Co., of New Zealand, Limited), reports for the week ending 12th March, as follows j — The last ten days have been, very favourable to harvest operations, and farmers are doing •their very be*t to get the crops secured. Some have finished catting and are bow stacking. Ths uncertainty of the weather in this district has almost pus tm end to threshing from the fete ok, and although the grain does not get into the market bo toon, it payß to keep in Btack for a month or two. Last season large quantities of grain were de3troved-by the stacks not being properly thatched;;farmers would do well to attend to thi3 during thepresent one, and also • -thatch the stacks'-immediately they are up. Prices are somewhat firmer for oats this week, and it is probable that old stocks will be cleared * out before the -new crop, is in the market. Short feedupito Is lOd f 0.b., and milling, Id higher. ■ „. .'_ ■ Byegraßs still commands attention, and all lota offering are easily; disposed of at up to 3a 6d per bushel, delivered iato store. WTe held a produce, sale on 10th inst., when a &br catalogue waf submitted, and with the exception or two lims every lot was sold at Batisfactory prices. Hides (light), 9a each; sheepskins, up to 3£d pec lb; pelts, 4d to Is 4d each; fowl whejt, 2a 5d per bushel; feed barley, 2a per bushel j damaged oate, Is to la 6dper bushel (Backs;,in)» Stock does not command a ready sale at present. The principal enquiry is for young sheep, but owners and buyers values are far apart. Several mobs are coming from Otago during the next fortnight. We have a few lots of large framed fresh-conditfoned sheep for private Bale Wilson, Tame, and Go. report on the markets for the,week, ending 12ih March, as follows: — -During the(week we have held do 1 itblic sales of stock, but we are pleased to say that although harvest time is generally the dullest/of the year we have had nnmeroua enquiries for both sheep succeeded in privately placing several Ikes." [ Cattle— There is an. enquury for bnllocks and I epeyed cows in fresh condition, and we have ! several sales pending. „ We have sold 24 head fat and fresh bollocks, »t €6 12a 6d all round ; and quote prime beef from 17s 6d to 20s. We will hold onr annual ram and ewe sale at the Invercargill sale yards on 30th March, and a large Bale of^ewes and rams at Winton on Friday. 2nd April. , t.. Southland Horse Market—Last Saturday 27 hones were entered at our yards for sale, but it being harvest time the demand was not brisk; except for hacks of a good class, and very few of that sort were entered. We repeat onr former quotations.
