Wyndham.

(FBOM OtJB OWN CORRESPONDENT.) With a view of providing an evening's enjoyment the bachelors of Wyndham decided some Bhort time since to give a ball. An energetic committee was formed, and, ba it said in their praise, no effjrta were spared to make the event a success. About seventy invitations^were issued, of wbich fully fifiy were taken advantage. On Friday last the Gaiety Theatre presented an appearance which I venture bo say U rarely excelled, except in large centres. In the fl^st place j the committee had evidently taken up a lot j of time in decorating the room with tea*trees, | shrubs, fernp, etc., and ths good taste in i which the evergreens were arranged was the subject of general and favourable comment, Of the gay and festive throng who had met, (I can with safety say, beneath the 1 afy foliage) to wile away the few remaining hours of the old and usher in those of a new born day, everything favonrible can bs said, The dresses of most of th« gentle sex present were tastefully arranged, and contrasted favourably with the evergreen adornments of the room. The mu3io supplied by Messrs Durie and Litbgow left nothing to be desired. Tbe Supper which was catered for by Mr D. Milne was spread in the upper corridor of his Hotel. Ifc was indeed a credit to the establishment, and in keeping with the occasion the walls wore tastefully covered with ferns, etc, and Chinese illuminators Shed a pleasant glow over the happy festival. It was almost dawn ere a final dispeisment from the ball room took place. All apparently anxious to driuk to the dregs the cup of enjoyment. August 22, 1-SBS.
