Consideration of the request from the Invercargill School Committee for additional accommodation at the Central school was postponed, pending the receipt of last quarter's return of attendance. .. The Half-Moon Bay School Committee were granted permission to use the old school building as a shelter shed. - The Inspector reported on the application of the householders at Mabel for a school there, and recommended that the re* xjuest be granted. There were 44 children of school age not at present attending the Grove Bush school, and there was a suitable build' ng conveniently situated on the education reserve. The distance between the applicants' homes and the Grove Bush school ranged from three to five miles. — The Grove Bush School Committee reported on the same application. They considered that instead of a boon the " establishment of a new school would be a calamity, as there were not a sufficient number of children to support the two schools. The distance between the proposed school and the existing one -was 2^-, miles. The committee urged that one good strong school was better than two lifeless ones, and suggested that a good teacher at the Grove Bush school was all that was required.
Consideration of the request was postponed for six months on the motion of Mr Shanks, so that it might be seen how the present school would suit the requirements of the district under the newlyappointed teacher. The Inspector reported on the charges brought against a country teacher by the School Committee. — The Board concluded that the charges had been in the main substantiated, and resolved to give the teacher three months' notice that his services would be dispensed with.
A teacher complained of a neglect of duty on the part of one of his pupil teachers. It was resolved to inform him that it Was a matter he should not have brought before the Board.
