Res Non Verba Tuaese.

TO THE EDITOR

Sib,— -The fire tb,is morning is another proof that our Town Council is either not capable or not willing to take any practical action for saving our properties in case of an outbreak of fire. They are just now wasting paper and stamps asking for information from England that anyone here could give them. I propose that a number of ns who are interested should at once import a ■team fire-engine from England, say such a one as is referred to by Mr R. W. Jones in bis remarks in your issue of Tuesday last. I will make one as a guarantee for the payment of it. This fire could easily have been stayed at Smith's or Sloan's, with proper appliances. —I am, &c, J. fl. Smith.

Otautau, 2nd Oc'ober, 1884.
