The Scottish Concert.
TO THE EDITOR. " Oh wad some power the eiftie gie us To Bee oursels as ithers see ns ; It wad f rae mony a blunder free us And foolish notion." Str, — Such were the sentiments which naturally enough rose to my mind upon reading the letter o£ the " chid" who signs him* B«lf " A Caledonian," and whose outburst of patriotic (?) indignation should touch the heart of every Scotchman in Invercargill. Poes he imagine that the crowded audiences which attend these annual entertainments are composed of Scotchmen only 1 No one doubts for one moment that there aie plenty of Scotchmen in this town, " aye, and in the country districts too," who would gladly have accepted the position of chairman " if " it bad hw?ff«ft4 (hem; and, tho committee in«

TO THE EDITOR. ; Sir,— l was somewhat, surprised when reading the paper this morning to find a letter in it signed " A Caledonian. " It was often said that the Scots were very clanish, and the writer oi the letter would make us believe it correct. 1 would say he was a man of rery 1 tile sense. Moreover, I think if the committee were only to try to dispose of their tickets to the Scottish people, they would find it would be a very poor turn-out. As it is, a number of people take ticket?, not because they want to hear the eongs, but for the '*enefit of the Hospital ; and as for the chairman, lam sure you will not find one more respected in the whole of New Zea'and.— l am, &c, NOT A SCOT.
A would-be wit once said, speaking of the fair sex : ' Ah I it's woman's mission to make fools of men.' ' And how vexed <ve are, 1 said a bright-eyed feminine present, ' to find that nature has so often forestalled us !'
