The Christchurch Press says — " With reference to the barque Bebington, now expected frem London, it may ;be memtioned that though she is 145 days out, there is little anxiety felt for her in well-informed quarters. The Bebington has previously made passages of from 160 J.o 170 days to the colony, and will doubtless put in an appearance here in due coarse. She is a slow vessel, but an exceedingly strong and safe one, so that little apprehension naad be felt aboui her." There were recently idle in the ports of the north-east coast of England, from want of employment, no fewer than 137 ocean - going steamers of 150,000 tons gross, valued at over a million sterling, and employing 1800 men when yoyaging. The fastest steam passage made from Plymouth to Melbourne was that of the Austral, which was done in 36 days from Plymouth, of which only 32 dayß 12 hours were under steam.
