The barque Conference was towed out of the harbor on Saturday morning by the Harbor Board's steam dredge. She anchored off the pilot station all night, and yesterday morning* got under weigh and stood away round Dog Island. The southerly wind which came on during yesterday would give her a lead through the Strait. The ketch Anna sailed on Saturday with a party of mutton birders for the Snares. The barques Mataura and Elizabeth Graham are both ; doing nothing at present, owing to the very little cargo coming forward. Mr Waterston's barque Gazelle is making good despatch in discharging her inward cargo. A somewhat alarming accident occurred on board the barque on Saturday, in hoisting one of the immense beams for the N Z L and M A Co's stores. Tile sling broke when the junk of timber was end on, an.d>but for the fapt that some of the same inatemi in the- nold : received the brunt'-£i~lb<F fall . there woidd have been a hole made*- of : such dimensions as would in all probability haTe sunk the Gazelle.
