Lord Clyde is an excellent model of the Clydesdale horse, is a beautifully bright bay, stands sixteen and three-quarter hands high, combined with excellent power and superior action. He gained first prize at the Mataura A. and P. Society's show against all comers in 1877, also first prize at the Southland A. and P. Society's Show against all comers and ages in the same year, and has gained the reputation of being a thoroughly sure foalgetter. Lord Clyde is by Rouththorne, dam Jesse (imported from Tasmania in 1864 by Mr Clayton). Souththorne gained the following prizes at the Southland A. and P. Society's Shows : — First as a two-year-old in 1867, first as a three-year-old in 1868, and second against all comers at the same show, and ii no doubt the best horse ever bred in New Zealand.
