IN THE BANKRUPTCY OF GEORGE PERRY (OWAKE).
The creditora in this estate met yesterday afternoon. The total liabilities were stated at L 250 9s 2d, and the assets at L 216 Is 31. The debtor was examined— He had been receiving a salary of L 4 per week for some time, but he had had two establishments to keep up, and waa caused expense through sickness He had no offer to make, as he could not tell what his effects would realise. The course he had pursued in filing he deemed to be the most honorable one, as, had he not done so, one creditor might have seized his estate to the exclusion of the rest. He had received sums of money from home, and they were properly accounted for in his banfe-book. Did not expect further remittances. Had given promissory notes for a large sum in connection with Messrs Guthrie and Laruach and the sawmill, but he believed he had been relieved from these by the transfer of the mill. The Chairman, Mr J. Stock, said he would rather that the debtor took time to pay than go through the Court. Mr Lewis was, for his part, quite prepared to give ample time. Mr GK Froggatt did not see any reason why the debtor should have filed, unless there wer« some connection with the Bank of New Zealand in regard to the sawmill which did not appear, and which the debtor desired to get rid of. Mr Lewis was afraid there were some transactions of that kind behind. If there were not he would be willing to give the debtor three years' time in which to pay his liabilities. Mr R. McLeod was appointed trustee, and instructed to enquire into the existing relations, if any. between the debtor, the Bank, and Messrs Guthrie and Larnnch.
