During the past twelve months this Lodge has made greas headway, having increased its list of members by more thau twenty, and, having now both local doctor and chemist, I see no reason to doubt that in twelve months time it will number a hundred members. As it Should be, — St. Andrew's natal day falls to be celebrated somehow by the sons of Caledonia to-morrow. It so happens that at the present moment we have a Scotchman among us whom his countrymen all over the world delight to honor. In view of this happy combination of circumstances it is not surprising that an attempt is being made to afford free course to the flood of patriotism the " doable event" is calculated to produce. We learn that the Caledonian and Gaelic Societies of Southland have arranged to honor Mr Archibald Forbes tomorrow evening by marching in a body, and in regalia, headed by their pipers, to Sfoan's Theatre, to hear their illustrious count.iyman discourse on " Warriors I have Known." The Hussars also, we are informed, have intinated their intention to be present in uniform, and the Hon. Dr Menzies, Dunalister, is to preside on the platform. After the lecture a banquet, at which Mr Forbes will be guest, will be held in the most suitable place that can be procured. It would be fitting: and right that so distinguished a man as Mr Forbes should receive a cordial welcome to New Zealand wherever he might first land upon its shores, but the appropriateness of an ovation is infinitely enhanced when his first acquaintance with the colony is made in a community largely composed of his compatriots, and, fortuitously, on the occasion of the anniversary of tjio patron saint of their native land. Mr Forbes, we have reason to know, has already formed a high opinion of Invercargill, and we bave no doubt that when he le ives U3 he will carry with him an equally favjrable impression of its inhabitants .
