A Use for Orange Peel.

•- ♦_. As a rule, we are not much in favor of "testimonials," but there is a gentleman at Manchester, by name " Ben Brierley," who certainly deserves one, if the statements contained in a letter^f his to a local paper square the" facts. Tor some time past his wits have been at work to discover a profitable uae;.f of orange-peel. In former times, gas companies and other manufacturers of raw material used to create nuisances by throwing away refuse which is now scrupulously saved on account of its marketable value, and Mr Brierley imaging,^therefore, that -the same good result might follow in the case of orange peel, if he could only hit upon a way of making it worth collecting. This he now claims to have succeeded in doing, and since the. process is of the simplest nature, the public can test its merits for themselves. A quantity of orange peel being collected, it is dried in or on the oven until all the moisture has been expelled. The peel then becomes readily inflammable,^ "and • serves admirably either for lighting fires or for resuscitating them when they have nearly gone out. Mr Brierley made the experiment himself with his own kitchen fire, and in a couple of minutes the coals were all ablaze. As thoroughly dried orange peel wiU keep for a very long time, it mi&ht ; be collected while the fruit is in, and stored for winter use. But whether ?it would pay our ; waifs and strays to act the plart of "collectors in the streets is quite another question. In the interests of human bodies aad limbs, we trust this may prove the case.— Home Paper.
