Writing on this subject a correspondent of the North British Agriculturist says :-" I have found by considerable experience that timSthy is by far the best grass we have for mossy land. If laud is fairly clean it might, ithinkibelaiddownsuccessfullyifthefollowine points are attended toJ ' The stubble should be cross-ploughed immediately after the oat crop is removed, but no deeper than the previous ploughing, otherlyise raw peat will be brought to the surface, in which no seed will germinate. If the land be well grabbed and harrowed ■ in dry ( weaiber in spring, .to the same depth only, a capital seed-bed should be procured. -■ Twoto3cwtof dissolved bones or other light manurebeing harrowed in, the timothy should be sown with ryegrass and a little rape, the seed well covered by the seed harrows, and the surface rolled. - Grass seeds without a crop on moss almost ( j; invariably burn i£ hot weather comes quickly , after wet If the seeds and rape are lightly , fed by sheep in summer, a very good sole of , < gras^should be obtained. The land should , be well rolled btfore the winter frosts. i Timothy does not do much on moss the first year;. ryegrass only lasts two years at most, jiad by thl thi=a y ear the land will contain little but timothy, and there is notuing better. __^^
