THE NATIVE DIFFICULTY.
.+ [By Telegraph.] Wellington, Oct. 22. It is expected Mr Rolleston and Major Atkinson will leave for the West Coast early next week. The Government have received a telegram to the effect that some natives have commenced fencing in a school reserve in the township of Rahotu. They have not the smallest claim to this, the former native owners having voluntarily exchanged the land for another piece. The matter is being investigated. Nothing more has been heard of the affair near Cape Egmont. New Plymouth, Oct. 22. A large number of natives from Parihaki were in town to-day. They purchased nine tons of flour and some sugar. They wore questioned as to whether news of the proclamation had reached Parihaka? They said " No," and purchased a copy of the Herald with it in. One who could read English perused it, and said he would take it to Te Whiti, who, he was sure, would not care, as he knew all that would happen to the Maoris, and could turn the pakehas away at his will.
