Some 3G or 37 years ago I attended a meeting of tho ArcliKolojricai Institute of Great Britain at Canterbury (Kent), in company with the late Rev. R Barham (Ingoldsby) and Mr J. R. Stanche (the eminent dramatist), when a paper was read on the evils' produced on old buildings by tbe excrement from tlie flocks of pigeons and other birds which often make their homes in tbe towers. Mr Barham passed round the following lines :— From the droppings of dicky birds fanned by a breeze, a Spontaneous combustion occurred once at Pisa : Beware then ye Guardians of old Duravernum Lest Cock Robins build in your cloisters and burn 'em I The incident io mentioned, in the life of Barham.— l am &c, A Casual Visitob.
