SALE OF STUD STOCK.
Mr G. F. Martin (on behalf of the National Morgage and Agency Company) reports having held a very successful sale of pure bred stock, on the Show grounds on tbe 10th instant. The catalogue consisted principally of stud merino rams and Shorthorn cattle, and the competition for the latter was tbe bet ever experienced in Southland for this class of stock. Our graziers evidently see that an improvement in the weight and quality of the cattle in this district is veiy necessary. The following is a list of the stock sold, and purchasers: — MERINO BAMS. Bred by Mr A. D. Johnston, Kaihiku. — 1 2-tooth ram, Mr J. Vale, 4 guineas ; 1 2-tobth ram, Mr J. Vale, 4$ guineas; 1 2-tooth ram, Mr J. Vale, 5i guineas; 1 4-tooth ram, Mr A. B. Hare, 6 guineas; 1 4-tooth ram, Mr Vale, 7 guineas; 1 ti-tooth ram, Mr A. R. Hare, 9 guineas. SHORTHORN" BULLS. Bred by the N. Z. and A. L. Co., C'.ydevale Estate.— l yearling, sire Hercules, dam by Prince of tbe Butterflies. Mr W. G. Stewart, 25 guineas; 1 yearling, sire Hercules, dam by Prince of the Butterflies, Mr J. Greive, senior, 30 guineas; 1 yearling, sire Hercules, dam station stud cow, Mr Cupples, 35 guineas. SHORTHORN COWS AND HEIFERS. (Sold in conjunction with Messrs Carswell, White and Co.) On account of Mr Thomas Ayson, Wyndham. — 1 cow, sire Stafford, and iu calf to Alvey's, Flower Duke, Mr Geo. Crosby, 37 guineas: 1 heifer, sire Stafford, Messrs Thomson and Sons, 24 guineas; 1 heifer, sire Stafford, Mr B. Cupples, 27 guineas; 1 cow, Fire Stafford, in calf to Alvey's Flower Duke, Mr Wm. liopcroft, 30 guineas; 1 heifer, sire Stafford, Mr Hopcroft, 20 guineas. Invercargill, Dec. 14, 1880.
