WIRE.) AUCKLAND, Sunday. John Cowell died to-day, aged QO. He was one of the oldest settlers in New Zealand. The body of a woman was found in the street at Otahuhu to-day. Her name is as yet unknown. CHRISTCHURCH, Saturday. The Resident Magistrate at Lyttelton gave judgment this morning in the case of the barque Annabella, some seamen of which refused to go to sea in her, as they declared the vessel unseaworthy. The Magistrate said he would advise the Minister of Marine to order a Court of Survey to be held on the vessel. Costs were not allowed. The ship's papers were detained by the Court, pending the Minister's reply. A farm of 10 acres at Hulswell was sold by auctiou to-day at £29 an acre, after a spirited competition. TIMARU, Sunday. The Customs duties for July amounted to L 2412 as against L2OBI for the corresponding month last year. Fifty-six births, 14 deaths, and six marriages were registered during the last month.
