THE CARNIVAL.

The carnival in aid of the Hospital Benevolent Institute will be opened this e veni ng in Sloan's Theatre. . The inaugural address is to be delivered at seven o'clock by H. M'Culloch, Esq., president of the Benevolent Institute, and we sincerely trust a large audience will assemble to hear him. From what we can glean beforehand we believe we are justified in stating that the arrangement-i are perfect — even as the bazaar will, be about the best supplied o£ tlie many that have been held here. We can also assure bur readers that stocking the bazaar has been governed by strictly business considerations. Heads of households will find an infinite variety of useful articles open to their selection, from handknit stockings to elaborate and ornamental fancy work. And the prices, too, are not bazaar prices, but such as. will tempt purchase upon economical considerations^ Although a bazaar to all intents and purposes, the term carnival has been adopted because it is the desire of the promoters that the affair should be as sociable as possible, and' partake of the character of a conversazione, without that excessive solicitation to purchase which has rendered bazaars a downright terror to the sterner sex. We believe that a remarkably pleasant time will be spent by all who attend the carnival, there will be abundance of music.
