SOUTH INVERCARGILL BOROUGH COUNCIL.
« A meeting of the Couucil was held on Tuesday evening. Present— : His "Worship the Mayor, and Councillors Brown, Pollard, • Young, Johnston 1 , Lyons,. and.McQuarrie. The matter of the borough bye-laws was pbsponed till next meeting. A payment of one pound to Mr Stewart for ditching was authorised. The Clerk was instructedto prooure all the borough's books, papers, &'c, from the previous clerk. A general discussion took "place as' to the present "state of the debentures, and the practicability of having them floated. A committee consisting of the Mayor, and Councillors Pollard and Johnston was appointed to advise with the borough solicitor, as, to this, and report to a special meeting. Letters were road from the Under-Secre-tary's Department defining ' the proper position of boroughs with respect to the passing of bye-laws, and forwarding copies of certain, municipal Acts which had .been, applied for. . A letter was. read from a residentin the borough intimating the breaking out of a case of scarlatina in his house. — - The Council then proceeded to prepare a balanced-sheet of estimated .if eceipte and expenditure for the eusuing year, and having fixed on one 'shilling in the £ as the general rate .to be imposed, directed ' the Btatutory Notices to bo maHei '' - :z
The following report of a committee, , consisting of His Worship and Councillors ; Stanton,; Brown, and Young, was read :— "Your committee recommend that in block!*,- Middle Ward, sections 67, 68, 69, •70, 3oY^o, :635= 59, 50, -and ,55, be set aside as a\; b^orough reserve fund, also" that section 33 oe a site for town hall, making a total reserve in Middie Ward of 47 .acres.,.
