TTownley, (a distinguished prize winner, and purchased by Mr WHsbri at the Peepy sale ih 1875, for 550 gs. It was expected that she would realise a large ! price; being a roan of fine quality ; but the first offer was only 50 gs., and ther purchase - r price did not exceed 150 gs. She was bought by Mr McCulloch, AustraliaiWhdwas:aiso the purchaser for 195 gs. of the firat of the Wild Eyes tribe offered — 'Wild Eyebright'— a six-year-old roan, which, although she had: recently had a calf j looked viery well. . The splendid stud bull 'Duke of Oxford 31st 'bred by the Duke of Devonshire at'Holker, was /received with much interest. He is a son (by ' Baron Oxford') .ofiGi-ana Duchess of Oxford llth, which was, _sqld.at,the Whitehall sale for 2000 gs. He is 'ac4rie(.'_6i^-year-old roan, and is the sire of a nuirierous progeny. Mr McCulloch atonce offered 100 gs. /for _tim,. and the bids ran rapidly up to 435 gs. at which figure that gentleman was the' : purchaser." The top figures of the sale were -paid by Lord- Skelmersdale, for the beautiful five-ygaurold roan cow- ' Wirisoine ( 18th, J . at .750 gs. — beating the Duke of Devonshire,r-and by Lord Lonsdale at 715 gs. for the very pretty "two-year-old roan heifer, 'Winsome Colleen,' by the celebrated ' Duke of Connaught ' the 4500-guinea Berkley bull.
