Writing on the 16th inst.; our c'orres . ponderit says :—-I regret to report a case of very sudden death which occurred at Oreti yesterday at about 12 o'clock. It appears that: a man named James Atkinson, who was employed loading, one of the; trucks in the goods-shed, took suddenly ill,' arid learied over - a bag. Mr Maberi,;whb: Vas passing at the time, saw the deceased: in this position, and went immediately and; told his sisters. - He then galloped after' Dr;'''Jackson; who bad/passed by a "few; -minutes before, overtook him on his way, -and. told him of the affair.. The, Doctor was on the spot five minutes afterwards, and • on examining the'deceased f oundlifo tb be entirely extinct.. "Constable Mulholland, of; thistownj was ihmiediately communicated with, and-i left by the evening train to inquire into the particulars of thei case. Deceased was a vyid ower, but leaves; :a large family to mourn his sudden death.; There has beeri::heavy rain during the; past week, in 'conseauence^bf^which the' rivers -up; eountxy haye once more Over;flowel their banks .arid spread over.the; adjoining-; flats. ...The. crops; notAvithstarid-:- --• ing the lateness of the season, look very prorirising and there is every prospect of aj bountiful harvest. • Last Aveek tbb towri was enlivened by, the appearance of the :;Eaphael Family,: who perfoimedsorrieaStoimdihg feats 'on! the tight and yslack/rope and flying trapeze. Mr A. J. Devereux was good, enough to give the use of the Exchange; Hall, free. : Last Sunday the town was honored by; the presence of the Rev. Father Higgins,, when he addressed his congregation with his usual, eloquence in a long and impressive" serrnOn. A very large congregation;'.attended from the surrounding district,: some coming; a distance of over twenty miles. It is extraordinary that,: -seeing the number of -Roman Catholics in the surrounding district, a church has not been established long since. '
