J Appleby Post Office. — We are glad to announce that a Post Office has been opened at Appleby, at the store of Mr J. Young, who, we may remark, has been 'appointed' Postmaster. * - The Excursion Tkip. — The Union Company's Btea'mer'Kotorua arrived at the Biuff yesterday on her return from the summer's excursion to the West Coast Sounds. No particulars of her trip have, however, been forwarded to us. She made a shoft stay at the Bluff, and then pushed on for Dunedin. An Unpleasant Sequel.— The bacchanalian vagaries at'\Dunedin of a local settler have had a somewhat unfortunate sequel, the details of which. transpired, m the Eesident Magistrate's Court , yesterday, While m Dnnedin, the settleivin question had fallen into the hands of those of less than doubtful social position, and when he arrived at his home he found himself the possessor of a pair of gold earrings. *- The Dunedin police, at the instigation of some young lady m that city, obtained a warrant for his arrest, which was duly executed, and- the accused, after being brought before Mr McCuiloch yesterday morning, was remanded on his own , recognisance untor-Thursday.
