An Unamicable County Council — The Westland County Council does not appear to be a very amicable body. At a recent meeting Mr Robinson, one of the members, spoke very plainly to Mr McWhirter, the chairman of the Council. He is reported to have said to the chairman : — " sir, your inexperience, and your own avocations unfit you to discharge your duties/ andso it has come about that the work has drifted into the hands of your subordinates in Hokitika, and the first thing they do, of course, is to ignore the vote arrived at, to disregard our deliberate action, and put our resolution in their pocket. The whole Council has been set at defiance by the course pursued."
