THE OLDEST CLERGYMAN IN THE WORLD.
The Shetland Times of April 15, 1876, contains a rnoßt interesting account of a centenary soiree, in oommemoration of the hundreth anniversary of the Rev. Dr Ingram, of Unst, held in the Free Church, Hillside, on the evening of the 3rd of that month. The church, which is capable of seating 600 persons, was crowded, and was beautifully decorated for the occasion. Upon the venerable patriarch making hi» appearance, the whole audience rose to their feet, and the well-trained choir sang with most touching effect " Benedicite,^ "The Lord bless thee, and keep thee," thus showing the utmost veneration and respect. A congratulatory address to Dr Ingram, on attaining th« hundredth year of his age, and the seventy-third of his ministry, was presented from the inhabitants of Unst, as also two other addresses, one from the Commission of the General Assembly, and the other from his own congregation, to which the aged and venerable minister briefly replied. Ihe speeches at the soiree were of a most interesting character, and the paper in which we find the foregoing, further states that a movement to present the rev. Doctor with a purse of sovereigns, worthy of the occasion, is progressing very favorably.
