Duhedin, Friday. The press is jubilant on account of the fact that the City of New York came in without touching the ground, and that the Taupo was made fast for the first time alongside Dunedin wharf. During the passage of the mail boat from Lyttelton, and when about eleven miles due east of Godby Head, and about two and a half miles off the shore, the sea was noticed tv be very much discolored. , Capt. Coverly had ?ome of the water drawn up, and upon examination, it was found to be full of earthy matter. After standing a while it deposited a muddy sediment, supposod to be the result of an earthquake. Christchurch, Friday. The case of, Turner v. William Wilson and Monk, which occupied the Supreme Court all week, was concluded to-day. The object of the action was to remove Wilson from the trusteeship in the estate of the late C. B. Turner. The evidence for the plaintiff went to show that Wilson acted as sole trustee during a period of several years, and supplied large quantities of grass seed and trees to the estate from his own shop, the former being bad and high priced, and the trees planted on the boundary of the estate adjoining Wilson's hop-garden, such trees not being required for the improvement of the estate. Also that he made sundry investments on behalf of the estate outside hia powers as trustee, and other mismanagement of the affairs in hia trust. Wilson and three other witnesses gave evidence to rebut this, and it was originally intended to call more, but during the adjournment for lunch to-day, the counsel engaged in the case agreed, with the concurrence of the Judge, upon a settlement of the case without its going to the jury. The basis of this is that Wilson refunds all the money expended upon grass seed and trees, bank shares and subscription, with eight per cent, interest from the timeofiuch expenditure, dating back to five years ago; also that Wilson ia to take over certain mortgages effected by him with money belonging to the estate, pay the whole costs of the case, and retire from his position as trustee. The restitution thus to be made will, with interest and Court costs, probably reach from L7OOO to LBOOO. The case has caused great excitement, as Wilson occupies a prominent position in Christchurch, of which he was once mayor. On the recommendation of the Judge it was decided to depart from the rule of giving jurymen only one guinea for the case, and to give them one guinea each per day.
