THE NORFOLK RUSH.

♦ ' The excitement anent the rush afc Norfolk Gully, as the site is now generally 1 named, shows no sign of abatement, and ne-w arrivals by rail and road are now daily observable in Talbot. For the mosfc part, however, they make no stay, the greater number returning to their homes in neighboring towns each day. What , may be termed the main lead has been further developed during the last fewdays, several more shafts having been bottomed, deepening as the trend ia followed towards the site of the junction, with tributaries in the direction of the private property. A third run or tributary to the main lead has been struck to the westward, and in thafc direction many hundred additional claims have been taken up and are heading towards Miss Gleeson's and Mr Lawson's paddocks, the latter landowner taking £100 on Wednesday as payments for the right to enter the paddock as c'aimholders therein. The parties whom we enumerated in a previous issue as being on gold are still getting good returns. On the second lead, Young and party washed a prospect of 12£ dwfc from three buckets. Jardine and party have likewise good prospects, and in their immediate vicinity a miner who was indicated as " Old Tom" obtained the same day a nugget of 15 oz. The depth here is about 50 feet, and, as showing something of the spirit actuating people in what are popularly kno^n as the good old time?, the fact may be recorded that some of our business people have left their shops and stores, and abandoned the measure and fche scoop for the pick and shovel. A large number of holes are going down, and work is vigorously proceeding.—Talbot Leader, 3rd March.
