The brig Britain's Pride, from Newcastlo, with, coal.', which arrived hero on the 16th, has only got a berth to discharge her cargo this morning. t The ship Peter Denny was berthed to-lay alongside the McAusland to take in balks'. The ketch Kestrel, and cutter Flying Scud were employed yestordny and this morning j landing the passengers I'rom the Wai tarn. The New Zealand Shipping Company's fine ship Waitara, 833 tons, Captain Hodder, left the London Docks on the 22ud September, and proceeded to adjust her compasses before Bailing. On the following day she proceeded to Grave3end, and there embarked her passengers. Next day she was inspected by the proper officer ; her boats and other means for saving life were put to practical tests, and passed tho ordeal with ere Jit. On the 25th she was taken in tow by the tugboat, which left her at 4 p.m. on the same day. Sail was then made, and she startod os her Toyage. On the 27th a very heavy gale was encouutered, which increased during the night to such force that Captain Hodder deemed it prudent to put into Portland. A small defect which was discovered in the condenser was repaired, and she sailed again on the 29th. Moderate westerly winds were experienced, until she met with the trades, ■which carried her up to 7.0 north, after which light vinris and calms prevailed up to the 28th October, when the S.B. trades were j reached. The equator was crossed on the ( 20th. Some capital runs were made in the i trades; on the 31st 241 miles were logged for that day ; on the Ist November 25b" mile*, and 222 on the next day, or 1345 miles in ah was the distance run from the 31st October to the sth November. Light variable win is prevailed up to the 20th, when another ■ excellent run was made of 1552 miles during | the week, 1792 the following week, and 1766 the next week. The best day's work was 3UI mile?. This rate of speed was only slightly diminished up to the 19th December, which brought her up to Tasmania. The wiud here became light N.E., and continued with little variation until the West Cape of New Zealand was made on the 24th ; enme on' through Ihe Straits same night, and anchored ' at the Bluff Heads at 10 a.m. on the 25th, completing her passage from Portland to the BlufT in 85*daye.
