RESIDENT MAGISTRATE'S COURT.
(Before J. Turnbull, Esq., R.M.) Tuesday, December 28. Raymond Faher, not appearing in answer to a charge of drunkenness, was ordered to forfeit his bail, £1 J. 11. Brown, charged with being drunk and disorderly at the railway station, on the 27th inst., did not answer to his bail, £5, and a warrant was issued for his arrest. Elizabeth Branton was charged with stealing, on the 27th of November last, at Invercargill, a basket containing sundry articles of clothing, belonging to Uobiua Smith, and valued at .£3. Accused pleaded not guilty. The prosecutrix identified certain articles produced as having been in the basket, which she had left on a pathway in McMaster's while she (the prosecutrix) went into a friend's house. Clara Davics, a little girl 10 years of age, testified to having met the accused about a month ago with a basket, which Mrs Branton asked her (witness) to carry for her some way. Another young girl named Fairmaid gave corroborative evidence. Mary Bryant also gave corroborative evidence. Mrs Galbraith, wife of John Galbraith, Elles Uoad, and sister of the prosecutrix, recognised the articles produced (some pieces of tweed) as having been in the basket of her sister on the day in question. Constable Ede had searched, under warrant, the house of the accused. Mrs Galbraith was present and she recognised a piece of tweed which witness found in the bedroom as belonging to her sister. The Court thought the case quite clear against the prisoner, who was sentenced to two months' imprisonment with hard labor. Weavers v. Seymour. — Claim under a judgment summons for £3 15s, less .£1 advanced. For the plaintiff, with immediate execution, imprisonment in default. Hannah v. Lamport. — Claim under a judgment summons for £12 11s 4d. For the plaintiff at the rate of £l per week ; imprisonment in default. Hannah c. ffaincs. — Claim for ,£7 17s Id Judgment for plaintiff at the rate of .£1 per week ; imprisonment in default. Fishendcn v. Ford. Claim for £6 2s on account of board and lodging. Defendant disputed the claim. Judgment_ for the plaintiff in the amount claimed, with costs, 13s. __„
