He is a beautiful bay roan, five years old, with black points, excellent temper and constitution, with immense substance. He gained the second prize to his eire at the Chiatchurch and Kaiapoi Show in 1869. Quicksilver, imported by J. Ladbrooke, Esq., in 1864, was bred by James Coker, Esq., Downan, near Lin, Norfolk ; got by Prickwillow, champion of England (considered by competent judges to be the best sire of his day) ; his dum by Old Merrylegs, by Lottery ; grandsire, Performer ; great.grandsire, Pretender. Young Pretender, Quicksilver's own brother, obtained first prize at the Royul Agricultural Show at L>>eds, and Was afterword sold to go to France for £750. Quicksilver has been awarded first prize every yeur against all coiners wherever shown. Paddocks provided at current rates. Every care taken, bat no responsibility. Terms— Oue mare, £4 4s; two do, £7 7a ; three or more, £3 3s each. Mares not stinted in accordance with the above terms will be served gratis next year. TERMS £3 3* Good paddocks provided and every care taken, but no responsibility. Young Lofty, by the celebrated horse Lofty, imported by the late Thomas Robinson, Esq., of Southland. Lofty is well known to be the best horso that ever crossed the line. He stood for two seasons in Southland at eight guineas a mare ; three seasons in Oamaru at seven guineas ; one at the Taieri at Bix guineas ; two seasons in Canterbury for six guineas ; and last year ! 600 guineas were refused for him to go to Wanganui. His stock has never been beaten, and his prizes in the Colony and elsewhere are too numerous to mention. The Duke of Buccleugh, one of Lolty's sons, was bred by the Hon. M. Holmes, of Oamaru, who re- ! fused £900 for him last year. Young Lofty as a yearling took first prize as the best Clydesdale entire colt in the yard, at the Southland show in 1867. In 1868 he took first honorß at the same place as a two-year old ; as a four-year old, he took the first prize against all comers in 1870 ; and in 1873, at the Walking Show, he was considered by competent judges to be the best horse shown. His dam was a fine mare, imported from Tasmania by Mr Clerke, at great expense, for breeding purposes. YorjNG- Lofty is a bright bay, rising eight years old, stands 17 hands high,with unequalled action. He bas travelled for five years in Southland, and his stock have always been prizetakerfl at the Agricultural Show. A. M. CLARE.
