The promoters have every cor.fi ience in laying before the public the Prospectus of the above i-ociety. and in doing so, they would draw tho attention of the people of Invercargill and the surrounding districts to the many advantages which Building Societies confer upon the district in which they are located. This Society has not been started in any way in antagonism to the one already existing, but simply because the promoters think the time has arrived when an additional Society will facilitate the progress of the Town and District. The advantages offered are many. To the holders of Permanent Shares, which can be purchased for £25 each, interest at the rate of 8 per cent, per annum is guaranteed, payable half-yearly, participating as well in the profits of "the Society from time to time. To borrowing members, money is lent on a scale from one to twelve years, thus enabling members to choose either short or long terms, whichever they may find most convenient, the redemption payments of which can either be made monthly, quarterly, or yearly, at their option. The Rules have been compiled with the most careful consideration, principally with the view of making them advantageous to the members without being detrimental to the intere-ts of the Society. As has been well said : "The extension and good, honest management of such Societies, if less tainted with the spirit of realising large percentage, would, in a short time, greatly promote' the comfort, social happiness, and independence of the working classes. I', through these Societies, by means of easy payment, a freehold site for a garden and a house, and money suflicient for the erection of the' latter, can 'be procured, wh it is there but, the want of ptudence, self-denial, and good management to prevent many artisans from living in Iheir own homes, digging in their own gardens, and ihirg that which Charles 11. said was the best preservative ol health— taking exercise every morning on their own land ?"
