The Argus of the 26tli ult. reports : — In the import market business has been exceedingly quiet, and transactions, as a rule, of very little account. Breadttuffs are very firm. Beet brands of country flour are very saleable at £10 12s 6d, and the tendency is toward* a further slight advance, though no eales have yet been reported over the rate named. Wheat is decidedly better. Sales are mating at 5s Id, but supplies are Bhort, and there is very little offering in the open market. Oatfi shew bo activity ; no business of a special cbaraoter is reported. Quotations rarge from 3s 6d to 3s lOd for common to good feed. Maize shows little improvement. We note a very good inquiry for sugar, and sales of medium whit* Mauritius crystals are making at £34 10a, while brewers' crystals have been quitted at £33 10s. We understand that the Acaca is cominp round here from Adelaide with her cargo of Mauritius sugar. Teas are going off steadily, though only in trade parcels. Sales of Patna rice are making to a moderate extent; a line of 30 tons, and other smaller parcels, have been quilted at £17 in bond. The saiea of timber comprise T. tsnd G. white pine lumber, es James G. rendleton, sold at £9 12s 6d ; white pine lumber, ex IMcna, at £9 10s; 3in dear pine, at £15 10s ; 2in clear pine, ut £14 5? ; 25,C00(t 5i x H T. and G. pitch pitif, at £11 17s 6d ; 5 x H at £11 15s; ard 81,000 4£tt spruce laths at 23* 3d. Sales ; of fencing wire, gulvunifed iron, hoop- iron, j &c., nil more or less dainagtc 1 , lmve also been j reported by auction. In liquids there is not much animation.
