A communication has been addressed to the G-overnment from Ballarat, inquiring whether the Government will be willing to pay the passages of, and offer suitable inducement to, 5000 immigrants from that district to New Zealand. It is stated that a number of highly respectable people and families could be found there ready to transfer themselves to New Zealand within three months. Dttnedin, Jan 16. A fire occurred at Stracban's brewery on Friday, and resulted in the destruction of the bottling department and the stables. The premises and plant were insured in the Standard for £500, and in the Royal for £250. The proprietor lately allowed a policy of £500 in an English Company to run out. He estimates his loss, in plant and stock, at nearly £2000. _
