COMMERCIAL.

Messrs Martin, Maitland & Co report :— Fat Sheep are in good supply at present. Our sales comprise 50 half-breds, medium quality, at 13s 3d, equal to 2jd per lb j and 1000 merinos for forward delivery at a satisfactory price. Fat Cattle, owing to the plentiful supply, are in moderate demand. We sold a small lot of prime cows at from £6 to £6 2s 6d per head. Store Cattle still continue in excellent demand, more especially spayed cows, and bullocks. We quote tor the former £4 to £4 5s > for well- ■ grown steers, £5 15s to £6 j mixed cattle, £3 to £3 ss, according to age. Store Sheep are being freely inquired for, and as shearing is now pretty well over, transactions will soon commence. The supply, however, is bound to be short, in consequence of the heavy losses sustained during the winter on the stations and bad lambings. Our sales are 700 merino ewes, full-mouthed, in tho wool, with small per centage of lambs given in, at 10s ; 350 half-bred hoggetts in the wool, at 15s 6d ; 60 half and three-quarter bred ewes in the wool, lambs given in, at 20s. Country Sale?. — At Croydon on the 6th inst.. we held a large clearing sale of draught, and light horses on account of G. M. Bell, Esq. We sold 20 head of draughts, including unbroken colts and fillies from 2 years upwards, at from £l4 to £48, the average per head being £27 8s ; 21 colts and fillies by Thames, Maccaroni, and Tom King, at from £7 to £16 per head. Team of six working bullocks with bows, yokes, and dray, £28 per pair. Agricultural implements brought satisfactory rates. We wish to call gpecial attention to our horse I sale, to be held on Saturday, the 23rd, at Gal • < braith's yards, when we shall offer Mr J ] Crosby'* splendid shipment of draught mares and geldings ex Omeo, also Mr Larson's racing stud. 1 Invercargill, January 14, 1875.
