THE WAIKIWI SCHOOL MEETING.
_ — .+. — — (to thk editoh of the times.) Sih, — It is customary, when reporting the proceedings of a public meeting, to publish the motions which ara passed, und if space does not allow of a full detail, to suppress any expressions which sraatter of slander or spite. You, Sir, reverse the order of things in your issue of the 13th instant, by giving a verbatim report of Mr Perkins's irregular oration at the late public meeting held in the Waikiwi schoolhouse, and omit or suppress the following resolution, which I moved, and which was duly seconded, and when put to the meeting, was carried by a large majority, viz., " That in conse • quenco of Mr Perkins, in virtue of his office as Chairman of the Waikiwi School Committee, misrepresenting the feelings of a majority of the settlers at Waikiwi, at a late meeting of the Education Board j and in consequence of the Committee generally requesting the resignation of the teacher without first taking steps to ascertain whether a majority of the inhabitants of the district wished to retain hia services, this meeting declares that it doe? not approve of the proceeding of the members of the committee during the past year, and declines to adopt their report." — I am, &c, W. J. ITobsyth, Junr. [We are not in the habit of suppressing reports of anything which takes place at public meetings. Our reporter maintains that no such resolution as the above was passed at the meeting referred to, but the confusion was so great at times, and the proceedings were conducted in such an irregular manner, that it may have been difficult to say what was, or was not, passed. — Ed.
