New Yoer, Sept. 1. A committee having investigated the charges preferred by Mr Theodore Tilton against the Sev. Ward Beecher, pastor of Plymouth. Church, have acquitted the rev. gentleman. London, Sept. 3. Mr Q-eorge Berkley has been appointed Governor of "Western Australia, as successor to Mr Weld, appointed to Tasmania. The ship Suffolk, bound from London to Brisbane, is afc Mauritius refitting. Tallerman's Meat Company has declared a dividend of 10 per cent. Sept. 5. The Austrian Arctic Polar explorers have arrived at Norway, after having abandoned the expedition. Tegetsoff reports having travelled in sledges over mountain ridges beyond latitude 80 degrees. The Great Eastern has completed the laying of the new Atlantic cable. The Marquis of Kipon has adopted Catholicism, and resigned the Grand Mastership of Freemasons. At the wool sales 116,000 bales have been sold, and principally to the home trade. The tone of the market is now weaker. Baltne and Co., wool brokers, report of the series that the advance on superior scoured fleece is Id ; low scoured, Ljd to 2d; washed half-breds, Id to l£d ; greasy half-bred, o^d to Id; and greasy merino, o£d. Wheat is steady at a decline. Adelaide, 55s to 58s per quarter ; flour, 37s to 43s per 2801 b. Copper of all kinds is quiet at late quotations. Wallaroo, £88. Tin is without alteration. Straits, £92 ; Australian, £91. The fifth cable across the Atlantic has been succeasfully laid. The Zabala Cabinet has resigned, and a new Ministry has been formed, with Senor Sagasta as Premier and Minister of the Interior ; and Senor Bedaya Minister of War. The Ministerial offices of finance, colonies, and foreign, remain unchanged. The Carlists have abandoned Puigcerda. Madrid, Sept. 5. The Carlists at Guetaria, in the north of Spain, fired upon a German gunboat, which replied by sending 21 sheila into the town. Paris, Sept. 5. On the 4th inst., disturbances occurred in the department of the Meuse. The gendarmie intervened, and one of the rioters was killed and 19 wounded. Slight demonstrations took place in other places, and at Lyons several arrests were made. Sept. 8. L'Univers newspaper has been suspended for a fortnight for publishing offensive articles against Marshal Serrano. Prussia, Sept. 8. An extensive conflagration has taken place at Meiningen, by which half the town was destroyed, and 3000 persons rendered houseless. I
