RESIDENT MAGISTRATE'S COURT.
(Before H. M'Culloeh, Esq., E.M.) Sattthdat, Jttlt 18. James Shoals, and his wife, 13. Shoals, new arrivals by the Carrick Cattle, were charged with, being drunk and disorderly inTay street on the evening of Friday last, and also with using profane and obscene language. Inspector Fox stated that although the accused had only ar« rired here on the 15th, the man had already been in custody for being drunk and disorderly, and that this was one of the worst casea that he had ever seen. Hi 3 Worship said that it was a very bad case, and that he would inflict a fine on the man of 40s, or 48 hours' imprisonment; for the first charge, and for the second, a fine of 40s, or five days' imprisonment. The woman would be fined 20s, or 24 hours' imprisonment, for the first offence, and 20s, or two days' imprisonment, for the second. His Worship cautioned them that if they were brought up again he would inflict the full penalty allowed by the law. Mr Macdonald applied, on behalf of Jacob Ott, for a warrant, under the 87th section of the Resident Magistrates Act, to take possession of certain deserted premises, on which rent to I the amount of £1350 was due. The warrant I was granted.
